Warwick Freeman

Warwick Freeman (Nelson, New Zealand, 1953) works and lives in Devonport, Auckland, New Zealand. Largely self-taught, he took up jewellery making in 1972, following two years of travel in Europe and Asia. From 1978 – 2003 he was a partner in the Auckland jewellery co-operative Fingers. Founding Chair of Objectspace - a centre for contemporary craft and design in Auckland in 2004.
Awards:  Arts Laureate 2002, Arts Foundation of New Zealand; Françoise van den Bosch Award 2002, Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

Regularly exhibits in New Zealand and Australia, as well as in Europe and the USA. His works are held in the collections of the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra; the Powerhouse Museum, Sydney; The Houston Museum of Fine Arts; Boston Museum of Fine Arts; Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; Danner Stiftung, Pinakothek Der Moderne, Munich; Auckland Museum; the Dowse Art Museum, Lower Hutt and Te Papa, Museum of New Zealand, Wellington.
Survey exhibitions with publications include: Owner’s Manual: Jewellery by Warwick Freeman (1995) and Given; Jewellery by Warwick Freeman (2004).
