About Chi ha Paura...?

CHI HA PAURA...?
Chi ha paura...?(CHP) (Italian for 'Who is afraid of...?') makes designer jewellery by international (jewellery) designers. CHP was established in 1996 by designer and co-founder of Droog Design Gijs Bakker (NL) and gallery owner Marijke Vallanzasca (IT).

By producing conceptual design jewellery CHP shows that a good piece of jewellery is more than a decorative accessory. In the jewellery made by CHP originality of the concept is central to the design and supported by a fitting choice of material and technology.
CHP asks well-established designers to invigorate the tradition of jewellery design, while paying particular attention to concept, play, new techniques and materials. By this concentrating more on the preciousness of the idea rather than on the material value of the object. By showing that jewellery design evolves just like any other design discipline CHP fills an existing void by making designer jewellery more widely accessible.

COLLECTION
CHP's Core Collection (CHP01-CHP22) consists of timeless classics, bringing together unique jewellery pieces by internationally renowned (jewellery) designers like Marc Newson, Marcel Wanders, Gijs Bakker, Ted Noten, Annelies Planteydt, Studio Job, Ineke Hans and Tjep. Each item from the Core Collection is a unique object in an unlimited edition.
The CHP Limited collection consists of special, more exclusive items, produced in limited numbers, for availability and prices check CHP Limited or send us an email.
All CHP jewellery can be purchased in shops worldwide, check here for a shop near you, or in our webshop. For more information regarding sales send an email to CHP's sales manager Nora Morton.

Once every three years CHP, in coöperation with  Stedelijk Museum 's-Hertogenbosch (SM's), asks a group of designers to design a piece of jewellery in response to a theme. Themes like: Sense of Wonder, What’s Luxury?, Rituals and Body Stories lead to illusive designs.
From the proposed designs the best ideas are worked out into prototypes and products by CHP. All first prototypes ever made of designs for CHP are in the collection of the Stedelijk Museum 's Hertogenbosch.

PRODUCTION
All CHP products are made with the utmost care, mostly by hand,
by jewellery maker and technical brain Jan Matthesius. He is a skilled
gold- and silversmith and since 1983 a part-time teacher at the
Polytechnical College, Schoonhoven (NL). He is responsible for
design development, including the search for the latest materials,
clever technical solutions and innovative techniques. Each piece
is finished by hand to assure a high quality standard.

MATERIALS
Because of their exploratory nature in the designs for the CHP collection, materials are individually highlighted on this website and can serve as a starting point to discover the versatile collection. The materials are also individually mapped in the wonderfull catalogue graphic designer Joost Grootens designed for CHP, and is available in the webshop.
