Alberto Meda

Alberto Meda was born in Lenno Tremezzina (Como) in 1945. Studied at the Politecnico in Milan, where he graduated in 1969. Lives and works in Milan. From 1973 technical manager of Kartell. From 1979 free-lance industrial designer for various firms, including: Alfa Romeo Auto, Colombo design, Italtel Telematica, Luceplan, Mandarina Duck, Omron Japan, Vitra, et cetera.

Since 1983 teacher of Industrial Technology at the Domus Academy in Milan and since 1995 teacher at the Politecnico, Milan. Member of the Board of Design Labor Bremerhaven, Institut f?r System- und Productgestaltung.

Visiting lectureships, seminars and workshops. Awards include Compasso d'Oro, 1989 and 1994; Design Plus prize, 1992; European Design prize, 1994.

His designs are part of the collection of the Museum of Modern Art of Toyama, Japan; The Museum of Modern Art, New York and other museums. Famous designs: 'Light light' chair (1987), 'Soft light' chair (1989) and 'On-Off' lamp (1988).
