Tord Boontje (Enschede, the Netherlands, 1968) studied industrial design at the Design Academy in Eindhoven (1986 – 1991), followed with a Masters from the Royal College of Art in London (1992 - 1994). Studio Tord Boontje was founded in 1996 in London. Since 2005 he has been living and working in Bourg-Argental, France.
His studio has developed a variety of products and furniture pieces including: watches and eyewear, chairs and sofas, lighting, chandeliers, textiles including upholstery, curtains, mirrors, tableware and a seasonal collection (products, packaging, in-store environment and art direction of the advertising campaign) for Target (USA). Among the limited productions are the Doll Chairs in collaboration with Alexander McQueen, and the Paper Vases and Cherry Pit Jewellery for Moss.
Solo exhibitions include: Winter Wonderland, Swarovski Crystal Gallery Innsbruck (2006).
Tord Boontje has been awarded with: Best Product, New York Gift Fair 2004 (Midsummer Light), Innovation Prize for textile collection, Cologne Fair 2005, Dutch Designer of the Year 2005, IF Product Design Award for Table Stories 2006.
