Wieki Somers was born in 1976 in Sprang-Capelle, the Netherlands. She established Studio Wieki Somers after her graduation from the Design Academy Eindhoven in 2000, in which she collaborates with Dylan van den Berg (b.1971, Eindhoven), also a graduate of the Design Academy Eindhoven. Both live and work in Rotterdam/Schiedam, collaborating with international companies, from craft workplaces to industry, galleries and museums, including MoMA (New York), Boijmans van Beuningen (Rotterdam) and galerie Kreo (Paris). Alongside the studio's activities, Wieki Somers regularly teaches at the Design Academy Eindhoven and contributes to several juries and seminars. Her work can be describerd as a subtle interplay of plain function, imaginative content and a sophisticated use of materials – she turns daily objects into an aesthetic (sometimes emotional) experience. The balance between reason and intuition lends her work a poetic resonance, while also leaving room for future users to exercise their own imagination. Her products that have garnered considerable attention include 'Bathboat', 'High Tea Pot' and 'Bellflower'.
