PAULINE BARENDSE - BUTTON TOUCH 'Buttoning or unbuttoning clothes is all about feeling. Your fingers slide over the buttons, controlling them with just the right movements. It is something personal that you don't readily share with anybody else. When another person touches your buttons, there is intimacy - your mother helping you or your lover seducing you. This jewellery is maintained by use - your fingers move over the buttons and the Braille is polished by every touch. Together, the Braille letters form the word 'senses'. Pauline Barendse was born in Wageningen in 1967 and works as a goldsmith in Schoonhoven. Studied at the Vakschool voor Edelsmeden in Schoonhoven. 1999: First Prize in the national 'Masterpiece' jewellery contest. Has shown annually since 2000 in collaboration with Hidden at the international jewellery fairs in Cologne and Milan. Since 2001: freelance designer for Hidden Commissions: Chain of office for the Mayor of Oudewater (in collaboration with Nobel); Chain of office for the Mayor of Maasdriel (in collaboration with Jan Matthesius). |
