ONNO BOEKHOUDT - BEETLE RING Onno Boekhoudt designs jewellery and (semi-)functional objects. He sees the ring as a 'room for a finger', because of the way the simple act of sawing a piece of material through or out is enough to create it. 'Beetle Ring' uses the photo etching technique. The wearer has to press the beetles out of the prepared sheet of metal him or herself, so that the finger helps create its own room. Onno Boekhoudt ( 1944 - 2002 ) was born in Hellendoorn in 1944 and works as a jewellery designer in De Hoeve. He studied at the Vakschool Schoonhoven and the Staatliche Kunst- und Werkschule in Pforzheim. He has been a lecturer at the Royal College of Art in London since 1990, and has lectured and presented workshops all over the world. Prizes: First Prize for Goldsmithing at Vakschool Schoonhoven, 1966 and 1967; Françoise van den Bosch Jewellery Prize, 1996. Solo exhibitions: Onno Boekhoudt/Why Not Jewellery? Groninger Museum, Groningen, 1997; Onno Boekhoudt/Why Not Jewellery?, The Israel Museum, Jerusalem, 2000. Recent publication: David Watkins, Koos van Zomeren, Onno Boekhoudt/Why Not Jewellery?, Groninger Museum, 1997. |
