ELLEN SILLEKENS - MAGNETIC RING

Ellen Sillekens wants her jewellery to touch something in the wearer. One way to achieve this is through an action - her magnetic ring, consisting of three different sizes and three magnetic stones cannot simply be pushed onto the fingers and forgotten.

Ellen Sillekens was born in Weert in 1966 and works as a designer in Utrecht. She studied at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Maastricht (Metals and Plastics Department), at the Hogeschool in Utrecht and at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie (Textile Department) in Amsterdam.
She founded Muurbloem together with a colleague in 2000. The company produces murals. She spent four weeks in India in 2000, working with local craftspeople. It was in India that she had the first version of the Magnetic Ring produced. Sillekens is coordinator of Young Designers & Industry.
