MAX WOLF - PLUG-IN
According to designer Max Wolf, a concept is often enough. Yet production
can also enhance the impact of an idea, as a result of which, he is always
on the lookout for the right balance between conceptual and reproducible.
His 'Plug-ins' are the result of an exploration of the relationship between
technology and nature, in order to discover what 'post-digital' might
mean. 'Plug-ins function like piercings, to be worn on electronic devices
like mobile phones, notebook computers and PDAs. They do not fulfil a
primarily pragmatic function but set out to create aura, to pamper your
need for luxury, upgrade your style and animate the inanimate.'
Max Wolf was born in 1971 in Giessen and works in Frankfurt. He studied
at the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Offenbach. In 1997, together
with four colleagues, he founded the agency 'Meso Digital Media Systems
Design'. Wolf and Volker Klag set up zirkeltraining.org in 2001 as an
outlet for their respective conceptual work. At Meso, meanwhile, he works
on commissions in the fields of graphic and interface design, visualization,
hardware development and programming.
Commissions: ZDF (German TV) - a Media Bar for the Internationale Funkausstellung,
Berlin, 2001; web-game designs like Shockwave Game for Flatfax, 2000.
He has created a number of products at zirkeltraining, including the Taschen
T-shirt/Bag'n'Shirt, the Plug-ins, Temporary Tattoo Club and furniture.
Zirkeltraining exhibition: Talents, Tendence Trade fair, Frankfurt, 2001.
